Rose-ringed Parakeet

The Indian rose-ringed parakeet (Psittacula krameri manillensis), a subspecies of the rose-ringed parakeet (Psittacula krameri), is native to Sri Lanka and the southern Indian subcontinent. This parrot species is one of the few that have successfully adapted to habitats altered by urbanisation and deforestation, with wild populations thriving in their native range and domesticated populations widespread globally.

This species is sexually dimorphic, with adult males exhibiting a red and black neck ring, while females and immature birds are either ringless or display a grey neck ring. Both sexes have distinctive green plumage. In the wild, Indian rose-ringed parakeets primarily feed on buds, fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, seeds, and occasionally grains.
