Coracias benghalensis indicus is a subspecies of the Indian roller (Coracias benghalensis) found in lowland areas of Sri Lanka’s dry zone. This stocky bird has blue plumage on its crown, upper wing, and tail, a brown breast, and slightly shorter wings and tail compared to the nominate. It is commonly seen perched on bare trees or electrical wires along roads. The Indian roller feeds primarily on insects, and occasionally dives into open waters to catch fish or frogs. The typical clutch consists of 3 to 5 white, ovular eggs, which incubate for 17 to 19 days. The young leave the nest after about a month.
