The Indian brown mongoose (Urva fusca) is native to the west coast of Sri Lanka, where it inhabits hilly forests and urban areas. This species has brown fur and a long tail, with males typically being larger and heavier than females. The Indian brown mongoose is a nocturnal and solitary species, known for being an opportunistic carnivore. Its diet is varied and includes rodents, reptiles, invertebrates, small birds, and eggs. During the breeding season, it is reported to give birth to a litter of three to four young, typically in a burrow dug beneath rocks or tree roots.
