Golden Palm Civet

The golden palm civet (Paradoxurus zeylonensis) is endemic to Sri Lanka, inhabiting lowland rainforests and evergreen mountain forests. This nocturnal and solitary species primarily occupies treetops, feeding on fruits and berries, but also ventures to the ground to hunt insects and small vertebrates such as frogs, lizards, and birds. As an important seed disperser, the golden palm civet plays a crucial role in forest ecosystems. For intraspecific communication, the species uses scent markings produced by gland secretions, urine, and faeces.
