Emerald Dove

Chalcophaps indica robinsoni, a subspecies of the emerald dove (Chalcophaps indica), is native to Sri Lanka. This stocky, medium-sized pigeon is easily recognised by its bright emerald-green wings and grey underside. Males are distinguished by a grey and white crown, which is absent in females. The species inhabits tropical forests, woodlands, agricultural lands, and mangroves. Emerald doves are usually observed alone, in pairs, or in small groups, feeding on a diet of fruit, seeds, and various low-lying plants.
