Black-tailed Godwit

The black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) is a migrant shorebird that can be encountered throughout the lowlands of Sri Lanka, particularly in coastal habitats such as mudflats, estuaries, marshes, and lagoons. Infrequently, they have also been observed in wetlands and paddy fields further inland. This large, long-legged, long-billed species has brown-black plumage featuring a white wing bar and a black-tipped tail. They migrate in large flocks and feed on aquatic plants, as well as grasshoppers, dragonflies, flies, caterpillars, worms, and molluscs.
