Barking Deer

The barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak), also known as the muntjac, is a solitary and territorial species that inhabits dense jungles and forests, which offer them ample cover. Males are distinguishable by their short antlers and small canine tusks, while females lack both. These elusive deer are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of herbs, fruits, seeds, grasses, eggs, and small animals. They capture prey by delivering strong blows with their forelegs and biting with their canine teeth. When threatened, the barking deer emits a dog-like bark, which is how they got their name.
