Giving back to the environment that we cherish is one of our collective’s guiding principles. In order to fulfill this, we created Parrotfish Works. As a policy, 10% from our paid work is funnelled into a fund that we utilize for community engagement initiatives around the island.

Yanik is a wildlife and conservation photographer based in Sri Lanka. Having developed a keen interest in the natural world from a young age, he later trained in photojournalism and portraiture at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia. Yanik’s work has evolved over the years, and he is now a specialist in conservation story-telling, blending his love of photography, wildlife and preservation of the natural world. He divides his time between the eastern and southern coasts of the island, where he operates seasonal businesses.
Mika is a visual artist, graphic designer and mother. She works with multiple mediums such as painting, digital illustration and installation. Her work explores such themes as our relationship with nature and the environment and our connection to the divine feminine.
Whilst Mika has worked in the design industry for over two decades locally and internationally, she has also completed her Masters in Fine Arts. She holds an HND in visual communication and graphic design and a diploma in printmaking. She’s most content wherever there’s surf, nature and art to be explored.
Avisha has been part of the creative industry in Sri Lanka for over 15 years, starting off in branding and building a career in interior design. Infinitely inspired by the natural world and passionate about preserving Sri Lanka’s wild spaces, Avisha joined the collective in 2019. As a director of The Parrotfish Collective, Avisha coordinates larger collaborative projects and handles elements of internal governance.

Avijja was only three years old when he was first introduced to the wilds of Sri Lanka by his parents. This passion was established at an early age and has resulted in a life-long obsession with wildlife. He spends any spare time exploring our island’s rich biodiversity.
Avijja then completed a bachelor’s degree in Biodiversity and Conservation from the Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia), commencing a future career in a subject that is very close to his heart. He has worked on the Umkwali Predator Conservation Project (South Africa) and it is here that he learnt the art of tracking big cats on foot. He is an avid wildlife photographer and a past committee member of Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka, and he is actively involved in wildlife conservation in Sri Lanka.
Being in love with numbers, art and coding my whole life, Rosie did her undergraduate in Digital Media and postgraduate in Database Systems. This allowed her to combine her love for art and numbers and helped her pick up skills such as web development, animation, app development as well as project management and R&D. These skills have enabled her to be part of this beautiful collective and in turn learn a lot about the environment, endemic species and conservation. Those who have worked closely with Rosie know her as a self-proclaimed geek.
Tashiya de Mel is a photographer, communications specialist, and environmental advocate from Sri Lanka who uses visual storytelling to create narratives that drive social change and highlight impacts of the environmental and climate crisis.
Tashiya grew up around the urban wetlands of Colombo and spent much of her early adulthood exploring the remote corners of Sri Lanka. These experiences set in motion an ongoing love affair with the wildness of this world and desire to re-connect people to it.Tashiya is the founder of ‘Lost in Ceylon’, a platform for adventures, storytelling, and activism. Through her work she hopes to create awareness, mobilise support, and inspire action. Tashiya currently lives in the Hague, Netherlands, where she is studying for a master’s degree in Photography at the Royal Academy of Art.
Dhevin Fernando is a Bachelor of Science graduate from James Cook University Singapore who has a background in marine ecology and finfish biology. During his time at university, he gained hands-on experience with coral growth studies, finfish behavioural studies, ecological surveys and sustainable aquaculture. Though his focus mainly lies in marine science, he is eager to do all he can to protect Sri Lanka’s wildlife.
