The painted-lip lizard, or Ceylon bloodsucker (Calotes ceylonensis), is endemic to Sri Lanka, primarily inhabiting the lowlands of dry and intermediate zones. It is diurnal and arboreal, often found on tree trunks in monsoonal forests and urban areas. These lizards feed on insects like butterflies and bees. Males exhibit distinct colour patterns, including a brownish-black head with white lips and ovate patches along the neck. They are oviparous, laying up to ten eggs during the breeding season.
