The Pernis ptilorhynchus ruficollis is a subspecies of the oriental or crested honey buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus) found in Sri Lanka. It inhabits lowland forests and primarily feeds on bees, wasps, and their larvae, using scale-like feathers near its beak to protect against stings. This bird also consumes rodents, reptiles, frogs, and other small prey. These birds are typically solitary and display sexual dimorphism in their colouration. Males have grey faces with dark reddish irises, while females have browner faces with yellow irises.
