LEsser Stork

Lesser Adjutant Stork

The lesser adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus) is a large stork with a wingspan of 57 to 66 cm. Characterised by an almost naked head and neck, scattered hair-like feathers, and a long bill, it is easily identifiable among other storks. Found sparsely in the dry zone, it is usually solitary, though pairs may be seen. This stork frequents jungle reservoirs, waterholes, and dry riverbeds, feeding on fish, frogs, crabs, small mammals, reptiles, and insects.
