Great Thick-Knee (Stone Curlew)

The great thick-knee, also known as the great stone-curlew (Esacus recurvirostris), primarily inhabits coastal areas such as lagoons and estuaries but can also be found inland along the banks of reservoirs. This species is predominantly nocturnal, feeding at night and spending the day resting and preening near the water’s edge with its mate. Its diet consists of insects, crabs, mollusks, worms, and other small animals. During the breeding season pairs typically lay a single egg on the banks of a lagoon or estuary.
