Dicrurus paradiseus ceylonicus is the Sri Lankan subspecies of the racket-tailed drongo (Dicrurus paradiseus), known for its distinctive large crest, glossy black plumage, and long racket-shaped outer tail feathers. Found in dry zone riverine forests, these active birds are often seen darting between trees, with their tails flickering behind, while frequently calling and mimicking other bird calls. Fiercely territorial, they deter predatory birds like hawks and owls. This species feeds primarily on insects and during the breeding season, build hammock-like nests from twigs and cobwebs, suspended in the forks of branches.
